New Years 2021

New Years 2021

It’s almost hard to remember back a year ago when churches were open, hugs were acceptable, travel plans were being made and smiles on faces were visible. Life just seemed so simple.

For us, our plans for the new year of 2020 included a trip to see Justin in February, summertime flea markets, and a long-planned visit to Germany in September to spend time with our German Daughter, Carolin.

It was on our way home from Justin’s last February that we began to realize our lives were about to change as a virus was becoming prevalent in the nation and the news was making predictions of a pandemic. From that point, life was on hold for us and the world.

Then August 1, Suzanne’s cancer was discovered and she was put on the treatment fast track. Seven weeks of Radiation and Chemotherapy followed up with many weeks of pain management and finally a feeding tube as we wait for the treatment results.

Now it’s another new year. Our church isn’t open, hugs aren’t acceptable, travel plans are on hold, smiles are hard to find, and our future together will be determined in 2 weeks.

In some respect, life is still simple, just like it was a year ago when you boil it all down to the basics. It’s not what I’m missing, it’s what I have. I have FAITH that the Lord has us in his hands; HOPE that the plans we have for our future will continue; and an enduring LOVE to share with my wife forever.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13
