Good News / Bad News

Today was Suzanne’s six-week checkup at Rush Medical Center, six weeks since she finished her treatments. Up early and on the road before 8 am on this brisk December morning. Arriving at Rush around 10:15 to start what turned out to be a long day.

COVID was our nemesis today and I will share our experience in an upcoming post. So let’s get to the meat of the matter as that’s what you want to know.

Suzanne had a CT scan today which the Doctors were all very pleased with what it shows. It appears that the tumor has pretty much died and is in the process of dissolving. This will still need to be confirmed in January with a Pet Scan but overall Good News!

Now the bad news, well at least disappointing. In the place where the tumor once was are ulcers, holes in the body that are having a hard time healing. Every time Suzanne eats & drinks, it irritates these ulcer areas. Additionally, her bloodwork confirms that she probably has some infection in these ulcers that needs to be addressed. For now, a round of antibiotics is prescribed to deal with the infection. What is not known for sure is the future treatment. A stomach feeding tube was mentioned as a method of letting the throat heal for a while. That won’t be determined until after the complete readings of the scans and the Tumor Board discuss her case.

After a round of fluids, we were finally back on the road @ 5:20, just in time for Rush Hour (no pun intended)

For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever. He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
Psalm 112:6-7
