Miracle Patient

Today Suzanne had her two-week checkup at Rush Medical Center. After a blood draw, she met with a variety of Doctors

First up was a new one, an Occupational Therapist who is concerned with swelling in her neck and it’s relationship with her lymph node system. Not finding much so far, she provided Suzanne with massage techniques to encourage the body to keep the swelling down.

Second up, her Chemo Therapy doctor. He reviewed her current blood work which showed she has pretty much returned to normal. He also discussed common symptoms which she may still encounter but indicated that due to her previous reactions, he didn’t expect them to occur.

Then the Diatition and Speech Therapists had their turn. Asking questions about taste, swallowing, and the food she has been eating, both showed signs that she was doing remarkably. Being able to taste at this point is almost unheard of and the fact that she is starting to eat some semi-solid foods was of interest to them. Recognizing that most of the pain was coming from the sores in her mouth that are already starting to subside, the two of them were more than happy with her progress.

Her final discussion was with her Radiation Treatment Doctor. He entered the room and stated, “So your my miracle patient” indicating that she has broken all the expected radiation outcomes they all expected. Happy that she was still on a very low dose of pain medication, he continued with the mantra of what she should expect and how she should continue for the coming weeks.

The final outcome of this appointment was that everyone agreed that getting together again in two weeks as planned was not necessary. So that leaves the next appointment a month after that which they agreed was soon enough, so six weeks till the next follow-up. WOW!

It’s hard for them to explain why Suzanne is the one that defies all expectations. It’s easy for us to understand who’s in charge.

So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”
John 4:48
