My wife in Verse

My wife in Verse

Through the years that my wife owned a Quilt & Fabric Store, she would speak at events about her art of quilting. Displaying purses, clothing, wall hangings, and large quilts that she had hand made, she would describe all the techniques that she used in making each item.

As she began her presentations, in her opening remarks, she would always quote scripture. Not something that was thought-provoking; not a verse that explained her religious beliefs; not even a verse that praised God as you would expect; but this verse:

Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
Genesis 3:7

“See”, she would say to the audience, “we are only 3 chapters into the bible and they are already sewing”. Of course, everyone in the crowd would laugh, no matter how many times they had heard it. This Bible verse was a true justification of her life’s passion for fabric arts.

to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts.
Exodus 35:33

Traveling with a crafter is always an adventure. In search of a new Quilt Store, Bead Shop, Fabric store, or other craft adventure is a top priority in our journeys. Just like the other day, she had walked all day in the botanical garden but still had the energy to search out the fabric she needed for the next project.

She seeks wool and flax,
    and works with willing hands.
Proverbs 31:13

The 25 years she owned a fabric store was challenging for her and our family. The daily grind of being there at a specific time every day and finding help to cover when family needs were greater. But the joys she experienced, the friends she made, and the delight in seeing everyone’s completed projects made her day.

In your marketplace, they traded with you beautiful garments, blue fabric, embroidered work, and multicolored rugs with cords twisted and tightly knotted.
Ezekiel 27:24

Gardening is one of my passions, but preserving the harvest is Suzanne’s. Dry it, can it, freeze it, give it away; something is going to happen to what we have raised in our garden.

You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.
Genesis 6:21

In closing, this is my favorite verse that I uncovered researching my daily devotion for this journal. This is my wife:

She makes bed coverings for herself;
    her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates
    when he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them;
    she delivers sashes to the merchant.
Proverbs 31:22-24
