Labor Day
Growing up, Labor Day was a big day around our house. Dad was a union man, Secretary / Treasurer of his local union & involved in other labor activities. In town, there was always a ‘Labor Day Parade’ that had floats & cars with dignitaries. I rode with dad a couple of times and on a float or two over the years.
Labor Day this year was just that, a lot of labor. We packed clothes for the next week in Chicago as a cooler week is in store; Checked in on and delivered sweet corn & tomatoes to Ellie; cleaned up the house after spending a few days in our weekend villa; Loaded up the car with needed groceries and other perceived necessities.
We needed to leave by 4:30 so that we are parked and back in our tiny house by sundown. With that, we were back in our van for the two-hour routine ride north, a quick detour for a drive through supper, and we were able to make our evening timeline.
This weekend at home has been a wonderful chance to try and leave what’s in store, behind; Visit with friends & family; accomplish some fall chores; pretend that things are normal; and sleep in our own bed. Now it’s time to start on week two, whether we want to or not.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
PS. For some reason the bible verse didn’t update on the ‘Bruns-O-Matic’ post, It’s there now if you’re curious.
