PATHway 17
Able to sleep in this morning, we made a quick stop by the Bank to take out a loan to fill the car with gas and be on the road again. Today was more of a shopping trip than the typical cancer patient hospital visit.
We checked in and before we even sat down, Suzanne was called to have her vitals taken and blood drawn. Knowing that we had about two hours before her infusion, off we went on our first excursion. Groceries at the local Jewel was our first stop. We were very familiar with this store as it’s where we did all our shopping when we lived here in the fall of 2019. That seems so long ago.
Then it was off to Costco, just two blocks down the road. We like this Costco as it is quite a bit larger than the one in Champaign. Pulling in turned out to be a challenge as the cars in line for gas wrapped around the parking lot. While we were shopping, got the text that the blood work was OK and they were preparing her infusion which meant we had about an hour to get back. A new outdoor rug for the veranda, Suzanne’s favorite mango juice, and a cart full of stuff that I’m sure we need somehow.
Back to Rush where we again checked in and were told they were waiting on us back at infusion Pod #10. Looking at my phone, I missed the text that told us to proceed to infusion. No waiting here, Suzanne was hooked right up and we ate lunch. In the old days (6 months ago) she would have had a difficult time finishing a bottle of her meal replacer in the time it takes for her infusion. Today, a bottle of Strawberry Soylent and a bottle of Cinnamon Toast Crunch for dessert were all gone before I was half done with my sandwich. She had to just kill some time reading till the infusion was complete.
Since shopping was our focus today, we next headed to Ikea in Bollingbrook; sort of on the way home. We were looking for some things for the new camper and anything else fun we find. Binny’s was just across the street and I always have good luck finding new brews when this far from home. One more stop as we head south, Alsip Nursery in Frankfort. Suzanne purchased some vintage wicker furniture recently for her veranda and needed to replace the chair cushions. Lucky for us, they had two that were a perfect match to the rug we just purchased at Costco.
Pulling in the drive, Suzanne commented ‘I had fun today,’ to which I replied ‘any day you have fun is a fun day for me.’
And I commend joy, for man has no good thing under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.
