Nothing New, Well Sort-of

Another after-surgery checkup today with Dr. A’s PA (yea, too many initials there). Anyway, since the surgery, all of Suzanne’s followup’s have been with Dr. A’s assistant. So far, he has always stopped in for a cameo but most of the work is done by the staff at this point, although he still calls the shots.

Suzanne’s swelling continues to go down as expected. We compared last week’s photos to today and it was really noticeable, even if we don’t see it in our daily routine. Her wrist also shows improvement and that we see. It’s amazing how our body heals itself right before our eyes. We have gone from creams, gauze, ace bandage, and brace to just a, taped gauze bandage in 5 weeks. It still has a long way to go before it sees the sun.

A trip to her swallow specialist gave her more to work on, practice swallowing. It’s hard to imagine that anyone would need to do that but it’s been too many weeks since she used those muscles. Along with that inactivity, the lack of mobility in her tongue makes swallowing even more difficult as the tongue is kind of like the traffic cop to the throat, directing how and what heads that way.

In the afternoon, Suzanne had blood work, CT of the Neck, and a CT of the Chest, all as qualification tests for the Clinical Trial she hopes to participate in. According to her Oncologist, unless something is really off in these tests, she has met all the other qualifications and her participation in the trial should begin soon.

The Hospital Gods shined brightly on us today as we went for the CT early and got in. After having her port de-accessed, we were on the road by 3:00 pm, one of the earlier times we both can remember. All in all, a good day for the ‘recoverie’.

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
James 5:15
