PATHway 12

Thanksgiving today, and reflecting on what we have to be thankful for seems appropriate. Many would think that being in our current situation, it would be easier to complain about how life has thrown us a curveball, but they would be wrong. Every day, every hour we have the opportunity to continue our life together is something to be thankful for.

Yesterday, on her twelfth PATHway Trial visit to Rush in Chicago, Suzanne had her third round of scans along with her usual bloodwork and infusion. Meeting with her oncologist, we learned that her labs continue to be “Perfect”. Her CT scans of the throat and chest continue to be cancer-free, and the sonogram of her Thyroid doesn’t show any additional deterioration. All in all, a visit to be thankful for.

Suzanne continues to push her limits on what she can eat. Almost seven weeks now without using her feeding tube, she is able to drink thinner liquids some and some small (very small) solids. Being able to find restaurants where she can eat as I do is now our quest. Top on the list at this point is Portillo’s where chicken noodle soup (hold the chicken and the noodles) and a strawberry shake seem to work well. Her progress is something we are both thankful for.

Making plans for the future together, both short-term and long-range has always been part of what we do. Antiquing, gardening, shopping, and traveling have always been things we love doing together, and planning those events is part of the fun. Making plans indicates you have optimism for the future, something we both have and defiantly something we are thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our family & friends!

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17

  1. Happy Thanksgiving to both of you! I so enjoy sharing your journey with you and thank God for Suzanne and her progress. And also for you, John, as her fierce caregiver! It warms my heart to hear you speak so lovingly about her. Have a fantastic and blessed day today!
