PATHway 10
A major failure of the Bruns-O-Matic occurred this morning as a malfunction in its internal clock was discovered. I don’t remember such a failure within the system since was put into service some 24,856 days ago. Preparing to leave for Chicago, the Bruns-O-Matic inaccurately calculated the departure time by exactly one hour. Looking through system logs, I found a time adjustment made last Monday while visiting Indiana for the Covered Bridge Festival but also found that an adjustment was later made that day when we returned home. I know that the Daylight Savings time change will occur soon but no reference to that was found in the system logs either. The only conclusion I can come to is that a misfiring of a neuron deep inside the system must have caused this catastrophic event. I have decided not to do a full system reset as it didn’t seem to affect any other of the Bruns-O-Matic functions at this time.
After all the stress of starting off to Chicago late blew over, our day was still a long one. Suzanne was only late for her blood work appointment and we were back on schedule for her oncologist Dr. J. Going into this visit, I was more concerned about her recent thyroid issue than Suzanne was, and as it turned out, her faith in this journey was again correct. Dr. J believes the nodule swelling is most likely a result of the trial drug and not a concern to him at this point and a huge relief to me. They will look at it again during the next scans scheduled in six weeks.
Off to infusion where our tardiness resulted in later blood work which delays the pharmacy which results in delaying the infusion. Actually, we were called back to the infusion clinic on time but had to wait for her treatment to arrive. Once it finally did, the half-hour infusion was completed with no issues.
Next up on our day trip was her swallowing coach who has wanted to do a scope while she swallows for a few months but our schedules never meshed. After talking for a bit, watching her swallow, and listening to all that she has been eating, he decided that a scope was not necessary. In fact, he decided that she has exceeded his expectations for what she could accomplish and could be of no additional assistance. We said our goodbyes as he has been a very supportive part of our Journey.
Finally, a follow-up with her surgeon Dr. A. He hasn’t seen her for a couple of months and just wanted to see how things were going. Also excited to see how far she has come, he still holds our hope that Suzanne may surpass the level of eating she is at now.
Of course, all these appointments resulted in leaving as Chicago rush hour started to ramp up. Along with that, a thunderstorm rolled in just as we rolled out so traffic was the worst we have ever encountered. The twelve miles stretch from Rush University to where I-57 starts took fifty-five minutes tonight. We did make it home in time for our bible study at the Methodist Church.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
