Pushing Buttons
I remember when I was a child and stayed in Chicago with my (favorite) Aunt Esther. We would ride the elevated train to downtown just for the fun of it. She also took me to the Science and Industry Museum, an adventure that was always fun. The best part of the Museum was all the buttons, knobs & levers. Watching things happen because of the action you took was so exciting. What’s more fun than pushing buttons.
As I got older, pushing buttons took on a whole new connotation. Knowing just what to say or do to friends, teachers, and parents gave me a sense of control. It seems that ability to push these kinds of buttons doesn’t go away with age. Knowingly or unknowingly, we all do it. After a spat with the spouse, you push their buttons just to make a point; getting back at the boss for not implementing your ideas; even a fellow church member who has a way of pushing yours.
Now, in the age of the internet and websites, pushing buttons has again taken on a new meaning. You can ‘Like’ what someone says, share an emotional emoji to express how you feel, even share what they said on another website. All those buttons have become a big part of our social interaction with others.
If you have been a regular reader here, you may have noticed that this week that I have added buttons for you to push. You can now tell me that you ‘Liked’ what I had to say as well as give a big boost to my fragile ego and encouraging me to continue writing. I have also added sharing buttons. If I do write something you like and think there are others in your life who would enjoy reading it as well, feel free to share my post on FaceBook or Twitter.
Whether you choose to push my buttons in the future or not, I hope I am still able to push a few of yours.
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13:16
