PATHway #5
Becoming somewhat a routine now, Blood work, Doctors, infusion, traffic, this week’s trip to Chicago was somewhat uneventful.
Suzanne’s Blood work was ‘perfect’ according to those we met with. As she is presenting some itchy spots on her skin, her PATHway coordinator commented that they were a symptom of the trial so there were good indications that she is getting the trial drug; a good thing. Happy with the way things were so Suzanne was off to infusion.
Her swallowing coach has released her to try anything she wants. Suzanne is currently getting about 30% of her calories from her mouth and pushes daily to expand that. As the two of them conversed, the goal of 100% by mouth wasn’t unreasonable in his mind, although a ways off yet. He was extremely happy with her progress since his last visit.
She also had her six-week checkup with the surgeon, who was out of the office so his PA met with Suzanne. Again happy with the progress she is making but still wanted her to see the main man, so she had to reschedule for her next visit to town. Aggravating somewhat as it is just one more stop in our day for someone to look and say ‘doing good’.
We were out of there by 1:45, record time! So I took Suzanne over to Michigan City to the Lighthouse Outlet Mall for a shopping excursion. Not as disappointing as the Tuscola Outlet trip was a few weeks ago but the Lighthouse Mall is a shadow of its pre-pandemic. I would guess that only about 40% of the stores were open for business. That didn’t stop Suzanne from making sure she didn’t miss anything, especially our favorite stop, the Pepperidge Farm Outlet store where she stocked up for her dad.
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
