Ahead of the Curve

Ahead of the Curve

You should have seen Suzanne today when Dr. A told her she was ahead of the curve; You should have seen her smile when he shared his excitement over the most recent CT Scans; You should have seen her eyes light up when he told her he was going to cap off her Trach and she could move on from just water.

Remember that Dr. A is our ‘Douting Thomas’; our most conservative doctor; our ‘Eeyore’. So when Dr. A had a smile on his face today that you could see through that surgical mask, it was as infective as COVID, and Suzanne caught it pretty quickly.

Today was another long day in Chicago, leaving at 6:00 am for an early blood work appointment. As it turned out, the bloodwork we had 2 weeks ago was outside the timeframe for starting the Research trial’s first infusion. From bloodwork, we went to the other side of the campus to meet with Dr. A & his PA. Besides reading all the CT results, they performed a scope down her nose and her throat which they also described as better than expected.

We had a 2:30 appointment with another Dept about her feeding tube. One of the ports has sprung a leak since being replaced in early March after her surgery. Our day was rearranged the just day before because of the blood work so we stopped in and they were able to work us in early. The bottom line is her feeding tube is a one-piece unit and the only way to fix it is to replace the whole tube, now that surgery is scheduled for our next Chicago visit.

Then it was off to the Cancer Center for her first trial infusion. While she was there, we were able to double up and her Speech Therapist dropped by to help her toward swallowing more. She’s good to try juices, nectars, basically, anything liquid that she wants to try, another happy moment.

Today was a good day, a day that brought optimism to my wife, a day that brought joy to my heart, a day that gave us both the needed jump-start toward hurdles that lie ahead.

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
