Risk / Reward
When we make a decision about anything, our experiences help us rate that decision on whether the reward is worth the risk. Whether to pass the car ahead of us; Whether to cook the Roux a little longer (you’ll have to look that one up :); Whether to marry someone; Whether to buy a house. What we decide is based on what we expect the outcome to be.
Today was no exception to that concept. Suzanne’s doctor had to decide whether embolization of the artery in her neck was worth the risk of brain damage or even stroke. In his opinion, NO!
If you remember, we got to this point because the radiation killed so much tissue in her throat that an artery was in jeopardy. As it turns out, not as bad as they thought. It is still a concern but the risk of completing the surgery was not worth the reward of closing off a small piece of artery.
So after the surgeon explained to me all that he tried, all that he looked at, all the time he spent working to solve his dilemma, he came to the conclusion that the risk wasn’t worth the reward, and I’m good with that.
God has put all these exceptionally competent people in front of us and we have had to make the decision: Is it worth the risk to follow their advice for the hopeful reward of spending more time together? Well, you know our decision.
The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward.
