Thanksgiving, 2020

Thanksgiving, 2020

Thanksgiving is a day of reflection, the day that we are supposed to stop and think about all that our journey here on earth has given us. Family, a home, and friendship are the first that come to mind.

This morning, after I had finished my morning routine, I asked Google to ” Play me some Thanksgiving Music”. An eclectic round of music ensued; some funny, some sad, and some calming. Most were thoughtful about being grateful for all that God has given us.

Then my song came on. It’s one of those songs that no matter what I’m doing; I stop, listen, and sing along. Songs like our National Anthem, I’ll be home for Christmas, and Amazing Grace. I’m sure you know the words, but just in case, here they are so sing along with me:

I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, “How do you do?”
They’re really all saying
“I love you”

I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more
Then I’ll never know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Thanksgiving was strangely different this year, no big family gathering, Suzanne unable to share in the feast, and our future a big unknown. Even so, I am still thankful to be here. . . . . Ohhhh Yeahhhhh.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  1. Dear John and Suzanne, Ohhh yeaaa!!
You don’t know how grateful I am that Suzanne is
all right. Thank God!! I met you both at Paulines
in Florida once. So glad for the opportunity.
I read all your posts, and have enjoyed them.
    God be with you,
    Ruth Taylor

  2. My mom’s favorite song….. we played it at the end of her funeral. Strange Thanksgiving, indeed. My Dad was by himself, though one of my brothers & one of my sisters stopped by…. family gathering by Zoom for all except my sister who is in the hospital….

Still, much to be thankful for and I love that verse.

  3. Oh John, I look forward to your posts. I love the song ‘What a Wonderful World’. I am so thankful Suzanne is recovering and will continue to pray for both of you.

This year, as first time grandparents, the last verse of the song strikes the best chord for us! There’s so much to be thankful for and next year this time I pray we can gather together again in larger crowds.

Blessings on your day John and Suzanne.
