Double Header
Ok, we are in the ‘top of the seventh’ and Suzanne had a ‘doubleheader’ today. Yes, you are correct; it’s a sports analogy day!
Suzanne is ‘in the home stretch’ this week with two radiation treatments today, her regular early morning, and then one early afternoon. This does not change the effectiveness of the treatments but does eliminate the need to be here in Chicago early next Monday morning. That means she will be ‘down to the wire’ for her last treatment this Friday morning.
We ‘huddled’ today with her Chemotherapy Doctor for a checkup on how she is recovering from those treatments. As far as he was concerned, she has really ‘hit one out of the park’ with her attitude and physical appearance. He indicated from her blood work that she was pretty much ‘par for the course’. He could see a slight improvement in some areas, others were continuing to decline slightly and will most likely bottom out this week or next and she’ll just need to ‘roll with the punches’
At ‘Halftime’ Suzanne ate a good lunch. Eating has become a challenge and a full bowl of cheddar broccoli soup must have been what the team doctor ordered.
This afternoon, Suzanne told me today that in the last few days I’ve changed from a Cheerleader to a football coach. I don’t mean to be her ‘sparring partner’, just her partner. So from here on, I’m not going to ‘Monday morning quarterback’ what I think she should do but support her so she can ‘go the distance’.
Suzanne has passed that point where you would ‘throw in the towel’ and there’s no way they can ‘move the goalposts’ on her now. So for me, I’ll draw on my catholic upbringing and pray a ‘Hail Mary’
There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God,
