Day 69

Day 69

Today was Thursday, the day when we have no other appointments but Suzanne’s radiation treatment. Back at the Guest House, we received a phone call from one of her Radiation doctors about a test yesterday, I’ll explain.

Early in the week, we met with her doctors who were concerned about an area in the back of her throat that in opposition to the other treated areas, seemed to be growing slowly. With that concern, he ordered a more in-depth Cat Scan which was conducted on Wednesday.

We were able to meet with the doctor immediately after the scan where he reviewed what he saw. He explained that it was one of three things: tumor not responding to the treatment which he felt didn’t have the correct appearance; an abscess in which Suzanne isn’t displaying the common symptoms, or dead tissue that may have developed a pocket of fluid behind it. The call today confirmed the latter and the doctor commented, ‘the best outcome we could have expected’ and we might hear from her surgeon.

Twenty minutes later, Suzanne’s surgeon called with an appointment to investigate the area closer, so off to his office we went. After looking in her mouth and then a scope, the surgeon decided to lance the area to see if he could draw any fluid from the area, which he did. So now, Suzanne is in additional throat pain from the four needle punctures and is on an antibiotic for the next week just for good measure.

This afternoon, we did some packing to take home tomorrow. Realizing that meals at the Guest House have changed in the past two weeks from solid to soft foods, we decided to take home those food products on the shelfves that we know we won’t be eating. Additionally, laundry products, summer clothing, and some other items are also heading south.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
