Bruns-O-Matic

Bruns-O-Matic

I’m always considering the potential consequences of actions, looking at as many sides as I can see to determine the best course of action. When someone asks me a question, I might just stare off into space for what I’m sure seems like a long time to the questioner.  Then I usually reply:  Sorry, I had to put that in my ‘Bruns-O-Matic’, which at that point I’ll share what solution I have devised.

As reliable as it can be, the ‘Bruns-O-Matic’ actually gets me in trouble sometimes.  Suzanne will ask me to fix something, move something, or just ask what seems like a simple question.  After a moment of running the device in my head, I’ll then explain why it can’t be fixed as easy as she thought,  I’ll leave without saying anything to go find the tools I need or just say “I don’t have enough information”. The end result in many cases is usually a frustrated wife.

Re-modeling our house is a good example.  Before I start on a project, I need a vision, not heavenly, but conceptually what the finished project is going to look like.  In my mind I need to see every detail; the woodwork, the built in’s, the lighting with every switch &. outlet. . . . . . The problem is,  visions don’t always come quickly, just ask the ‘wife’.  ( laughing emoji inserted here!)

I can’t say it’s all bad to be mechanical in my thinking.  It gives me the ability to listen to someone’s explanation of a problem and then formulate the questions I need to be answered.   Trust me, the ‘Bruns-O-Matic’ has been put to the test in the past month.  Trying to solve financial problems, scheduling treatments, medications, and other needs of Suzanne’s, and just finding time to get everything done that needs to be.  I’m sure that like any other tool or device I use out in the shop, the ‘Bruns-O-Matic’ will begin to fail someday.  When that happens, it will be a sad day for me.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12

  1. “I’m sure that like any other tool or device I use out in the shop, the ‘Bruns-O-Matic’ will begin to fail someday”

Remember that when/if the “Bruns-O-Matic” fails, you will find that others with tools that can step up and help you fix/ organize/ solve problems, too. Sometimes when one tool fails, you can borrow others.

    Praying for you two daily.

  2. John, I have seen that calculated look that you referred to. And I very much appreciate love and support you have shown for your wife this past month. I will, however, share that I was a bit disappointed there was not a Bible scripture at the end of your post. Perhaps because there’s no references in the Bible to ‘Bruns-o-Matics’!
