Here for a good time
This moring as we ate breakfast, I asked google to play some Geroge Strait for my wife. George is her favorite singer, always has been, always will be.
Google said “sure, here is some George Strait from your Google Library”.
As a smile came to my struggling wife’s face, the song “I’m here for a good time” came on that magic box. We both listened intently to the words which seemed to be speaking to both of us:
I’m not going to lay around and whine and moan
‘Cause somebody done done me wrong
Don’t think for a minute
That I’m gonna sit around and sing some old sad song
I believe it’s half full, not a half empty glass
Every day I wake up knowing it could be my last
We listened together and as the song ended, I got up to put another English muffin in the toaster. As I did, Google started the same song over again. I looked at Suzanne and commented that’s strange to play it two times in a row. Then I commented on how this song is a good reflection of how we should live life. Then the chorus began again.
I ain’t here for a long time
I’m here for a good time
So bring on some sunshine, to hell with the red wine
Pour me some moonshine
When I am gone put it in stone, he left nothing behind’
I ain’t here for a long time
I’m here for a good time
Still facing the toaster, I had my back to Suzanne as huge tears welled up inside. When Cindy died, I promised myself that life was too short, friends were too precious, family too important, church & God vital and not to let it all pass me by. Well, it has!
I can see how the road in front of me is narrowing some every day. I’ve watched my grandparents, and then my parents and now me as I walk that road called life. No matter how hard we try, we can’t keep that road from getting narrower and narrower. For some, like my dad, it’s a very long road, for others, it narrows quickly, and for some unfortunate souls, it’s a long and treacherous road.
Who chooses which road we follow? Why do some never experience the sudden loss of a loved one? Why are some burdened with illness? Why are some so fortunate and others suffer? As a thinking being, these questions and so many more cross my mind as I’m sure they do yours, but they will never be answered in our lifetime.
I have tried to follow George Strait’s suggestion and live my life “for a good time” mainly because “I ain’t here for a long time”
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
