The first in the variety case from Michelob, the porter was as expected, a very dark ale with the traditional dark flavors. Chocolate is the flavor that comes to mind most as I drank this one. It didn’t have much after tase and since I generally don’t like dark, it’s only a 4 on my scale.
On John’s Beer scale:
Color: 9 1=Light / 10=Dark
Balance: 4 1=Sweet / 10=Bitter
Flavor: 7 1=Light / 10=Strong
Rank: 4 1=Dislike / 10=Like
Here is what AB says: Michelob AmberBock is brewed with all-imported hops and dark-roasted barley malt, giving this lager its unique, rich amber color and smooth, full-bodied taste. AmberBock works well with grilled meats and barbecued foods, as well as a variety of cheeses, from cheddar to gouda as well as smoked mozzarella. The hearty and malty flavors found in bocks can stand up to the bolder flavors of more opulent meals. This beer is best enjoyed served in a tulip-style glass. Contains 5.2% ABV.

Don’t, with a capital D, go to McGinnis pub in Michigan City at an off hour. Suzanne and I arrived at 4:00pm local time to find ourselves the only ones in the restaurant. 3 guys at the bar kept the attention of the bartender who was also our waitress.
The beer selection was nothing special with no unique Irish beer other than Guinness, so I ordered a Blue Moon which came with a lemon wedge instead of the new craze of an orange wedge and arrived after waiting a longer than expected. Suzanne ordered a margarita on the rocks which evidently was not something regular for McGinnis. We were informed by our waitress / bartender that she needed to go to the basement to find some tequila. Now time moved long passed acceptable as I watch our bartender / waitress server the locals at the bar. Finally, after I passed even my level of patients, the margarita arrived.
We ordered sandwiches because evidently the dinner menu doesn’t come out for another 1/2 hr. I had the Ruben which they served the dressing no the side; Nice Touch! Suzanne had the Italian “Irish” beef with mozzarella cheese. Both of us had “Treks”, a thin sliced potato chip that was deep fried and battered. Also good. The menu mentioned chili for dipping so I guess we needed to order that.
The sandwiches arrived quickly in comparison to our drinks which improved our attitude. Overall we enjoyed our visit to McGinnis and would try it again, only at a time when it was more convenient to them than us.
